What is freeTunes 5 in one sentence?
freeTunes 5 converts music into 9 formats, rips audio CDs with verification, burns audio and MP3 CDs, records system playback track by track and can organize the results using a playlist template.
Is recording playback legal?
freeTunes records only the system's own audio output (loopback) — no copy protection is circumvented and no service account is accessed. Use is limited to private, personal copies; the copyright law of your country applies.
Which formats are supported?
Target formats: MP3, AAC, FLAC, ALAC, Opus, OGG, WAV, AIFF and M4B. As sources, all common audio and video containers work — the audio track is extracted from videos.
How does freeTunes ensure quality when ripping CDs?
On request, every track is read multiple times and compared via checksums (verified ripping). Deviations are reported instead of silently ignored.
Does freeTunes burn audio CDs that play in the car?
Yes. Before burning, every track is automatically converted to CD-DA (16 bit, 44.1 kHz, stereo) — Red Book compliant. Such CDs play in every CD player. MP3 CDs additionally get numbering for car stereos.
What exactly does the playlist template do?
It is purely an organizing aid: recorded tracks are matched against the list and receive a number, a clean file name ("03 - Artist - Title") and a folder named after the playlist — no matter the playback order. Unmatched tracks are kept unchanged.
On how many devices does a license run?
Depending on the edition purchased, on 1 or 3 devices. Switching devices is supported and does not void your license.
How do updates work?
freeTunes checks for new versions at most once a day. Before every installation, checksum and code signature are verified — this protection cannot be disabled. One year of updates is included in the purchase price.
What data does freeTunes send?
None by default. The anonymous usage statistics are opt-in (default: off) and contain neither names, email addresses, license keys nor any content.
What are the system requirements — and does freeTunes run natively on Apple Silicon?
Windows 10/11 (x64 and ARM64) or macOS 12 Monterey or later. On the Mac there are separate, notarized builds for Apple Silicon and Intel. For burning, any CD/DVD burner recognized by the system will do, including USB drives.
Is there a subscription?
No. freeTunes 5 is a one-time purchase with one year of updates — with no automatic renewal.
Is there a trial version?
Yes. Every download runs for 14 days with the full feature set. After that, a licence key is required for activation — your data and settings are kept.
